FAQ

Where is your office located?

I’m all virtual! I went online during the pandemic, and I’ve decided to stay online for the foreseeable future.

We’ll have therapy on whatever screen you choose, in whatever (private) location you choose. In my professional opinion, it’s just as good as meeting in person – all you have to do is show up!

How does your payment for therapy work?

For virtual sessions, I use a convenient, HIPAA-compliant Zoom-for-Therapists called SimplePractice.

Once you set up your profile, you can enter your credit/debit card information, and it will bill you automatically after every session.

I am also willing to arrange alternative options with you – simply ask.

Do you accept insurance?

No, I am private pay only and do not accept insurance.

I’ll send you a receipt after every session and/or a Superbill every month.

Despite what you stated above, can I still use insurance to pay for therapy?
If your insurance accepts “Superbills,” I am happy to provide that document so you may seek reimbursement.
How long are your sessions?

The initial consultation is a FREE 20-minute conversation, so you can get to know me and get a sense of whether we’re a good fit.

Regular sessions are generally 50 minutes, once a week, however.

The number of sessions depends on you – we can schedule as many – or as few – as you need.

How do I set up an initial appointment?

Call/text (714) 869-1072 or email me at caroline@carefullytherapy.com.

I’m friendly, and if you don’t reach me immediately, I’ll respond within a business day.

How aware are you of your privilege?

I identify as a white, neurotypical, able-bodied, cisgender, queer woman, whose pronouns are she/her.

There’s a lot of privilege wrapped up in my identity, and I’ve had to educate myself about it – and the power I hold in the therapy room.

Please feel free to engage with me about it – if you feel comfortable – because it’s important to me that you feel safe, seen, and heard in therapy with me.

Who do you work with?
I work with all types of people. However, if you identify differently from me and would prefer a therapist who looks like you or who can speak to your specific experience, I am happy to help you find one. I have lots of diverse colleagues to recommend!
Do you believe Black Lives Matter?
Yes. And I will continue to amplify Black voices, especially in the mental health community.
Are you LGBTQIAA++ affirmative?
Enthusiastically, yes! I have specific training in LGBTQIAA++ affirmative therapy.
Do you work with people of all faiths (or lack thereof)?

Absolutely! My specialization in graduate school was Spiritual and Depth Psychology.

I will follow your lead if you want to engage with this topic in therapy.

Do you talk about politics in session?

We can process anything you need, including politics.

I’ll never bring up politics on my own, though. It’s your session.

What are your training and education?
I graduated from Antioch University in Los Angeles, California, with a master’s in Clinical Psychology specializing in Spiritual and Depth Psychology. I completed my associateship training (3000+ hours) at the Southern California Counseling Center.
If I go to therapy, will you tell me what to do?

My mission is to support and guide you on your path to healing and to make mental wellness tools accessible for everyone.

That doesn’t include giving advice or telling you what to do. I will hold space for you to process whatever you need to.

Do you have your own therapist?

Heck yes, I do! I have been in therapy on and off since high school. Therapy’s profound influence on my life is part of the reason I became a therapist myself.

My ethos: mental health and therapy resources should be a right, not a privilege.
